New York Jets forced to soar over Oakland

The 2-13 Oakland Raiders head into Giants Stadium on Sunday to play the 9-6 New York Jets at 1 p.m. (EST). The Raider’s season is all over and seems headed to certain reorganization once again. The Jets have made a comeback season from their shaky initial run to put themselves in a great position for the post season, if they win.

The Jets have an opportunity to win at home against the worst team in the league but should not play over confident.  These are the Raiders who beat the Pittsburgh Steelers down to a team that fell completely apart thereafter. It won't come as a surprise if they try and spoil the fun for the Jets, who cannot afford a loss at all.

With the Bengals, Jaguars, Chiefs and Titans all following close behind with an 8-7 record, the Jets need to play simple football, go score against a terrible team with a great passing defense and hold the score. In the NFL this proves to be hard from week to week and the Jets could slip, but since they have surged lately, I am willing to bet they won't choke.

The Jets offense struggled to score during a heavy rain fall Monday and won on a 30 yard field goal by Mike Nugent with 10 seconds left.

Nugent has connected on his last 15 attempts.

Chad Pennington was 14 of 29 for 237 yards with a touchdown and although New York has won four of its last five games, and Pennington has thrown for 1,307 yards while completing 67.5 percent of his passes in those games, Oakland has the No. 1 passing defense in the league. They allow an average of only 150.9 yards.

The Jets earned a 13-10 win over east coast rival Miami on Christmas and are one win away from their fourth postseason berth in the last six years. The Jets are 5-2 since their bye week and have allowed an average of 14.1 points in those games. In the last six they have held four opponents to only one touch down.

The Raiders have lost eight straight games and are averaging a league low 11.0 points. With a total of 34 I have to say bet under on this game. These teams do not score and over-defend with what they have, expect no total to go over.

If they beat the Raiders the Jets would have finally won three in a row. They haven't accomplished this all season and really need to break the spell.

The Jets come in with an enormous line of -12 maybe -11 at your other out, in all cases I can't really say they will cover. The total on the other hand seems very likely for an under 34. Good Luck!
