NFL Picks Week 5 from Matthew Ross

NFL Picks Week 5 from Matthew RossA lesser man would run and hide, not wanting to deal with the intense scrutiny and criticism associated with my losing record. However, we believe we’re right on the cusp of good things.

Sure, another 1-2 week didn’t yield any profits. However, it is our contention that one of those losses (Lions) was the right call and circumstances foiled us yet again. No matter, we are ready to get right back on the horse and try again. I am taking three tough games this week to show you I mean business. If you are such a skeptic, then bet the other side of my picks and we’ll see who comes out on top.

Jets +7 versus Jaguars

Yes, we still believe the Jags are a better team. However, you just can’t ignore the Jets’ record versus the spread or their ability to keep ball games close. When Jacksonville wins, it’s usually pretty ugly. So how can we give them seven points here and expect them to cover? We can’t. Chad Pennington is playing tremendously right now. Take the points and the Jets.

Cowboys +1.5 versus Eagles
All of the experts are claiming Dallas comes in with tons of momentum, a healthier team and a better running game. However, they don’t have the guts and intangibles that Philly brings to the table. The only reason this spread is so low, is the amount of banged up players on that home team’s sideline. Expect Westbrook to play. Expect the cornerbacks to return. Then expect McNabb to be much better than Bledsoe. Philadelphia won’t lose another game at home this season. Take the Eagles and lay the points.

Steelers +3 versus Chargers
At 1-2, Pittsburgh comes into Week 5 under the radar for the first time in many months. The Steelers are coming off a bye week and MUST win this game. Meanwhile, Philip Rivers and the Chargers struggled on offense against the Ravens in Week 4. Bill Cowher and his staff will take notes and emulate those problems. Expect the champs to bounce back and maybe even win this game outright.

Last week: 1-2
Overall: 5-7
