In this week’s match up at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City Missouri, the running game will be element number one to walk away with a win. Marty Schottenheimer, who coached the Kansas City Chiefs for nine years, requires one win to tie the all time 6th most winning coach Dan Reeves.
The San Diego Chargers come in to Arrowhead 1-3 since coach Schottenheimer heads the team with a 4-4 over all. San Diego has lost its last nine encounters in Kansas. Larry Johnson’s performance outdid the San Diego Chargers last December when he ran for 131 yards and had a rushing TD and a passing TD to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a 20-7 win.
The rushing will be the decisive factor in this game. Larry Johnson (357 yards 3 TDS/23 receptions for 274 yards and 1 TD) will be the force to stop which seems a simple task for the likes of linebackers Shaun Philips and Shawne Merriman who have combined for 11½ sacks to conform the leagues’ third-ranked defense allowing only 11 points total. Kansas City Chief’s defense who has allowed their opponents to rush for 129 on the other hand will face running back LaDainian Tomlinson who leads the NFL with 7 rushing TDS. LT with 407 yards rushing and 174 passing was decisive in last weeks win over the San Francisco 49ers scoring 4 TDS to reach a career high 87.

Quarterbacks on cue.
Something to look into with this week’s game is Philip River’s performance. He led the San Diego Chargers to a win by passing for a career high 334 yards and 2 TDS. River’s 70.5% completion rate for 919 yards 6 TDS and 1 Interception make a lethal weapon combined with wide receivers Eric Parker (14 Rec 237 yards) and Keenan McCardell (16 Rec 178 yards) and tight end Antonio Gates (14 Rec 214 yards 3 TDS). Although they played strong last week some San Diego Charger players mention they still have work to do in this area but should soon have a passing offensive option that will help to push the team past the regular season.
Damon Huard, in for an injured Trent Green has passed for 931 yards and 5 TDS giving up only 1 interception. Although his job hasn’t been the worst in the league, a fact to consider is that he has possibly thrown more times to Running back Larry Johnson (23 Rec 274 yards) then to Wide receiver Dante Hall (16 Rec. 133 yards) or Tight End Tony Gonzalez (21 Rec. 187yards)
The opening line was Chargers -5½ with a 43 total, which is expected to close as low as – 4½ with a 41 total. We expect a road win for the San Diego Chargers and an action packed high scoring game, with the favorite covering relatively easy although the line would try and suggest parity. Lay the wood it will all be good.
