Peyton Manning’s Colts take on Dallas

by Thomas Jensen on Saturday, November 18th, 2006

The game for a possible Colts 10-0 record is at hand at Texas Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The Cowboys host the Indianapolis Colts led by quarterback Peyton Manning. Both teams had a win last week, one less dramatic then the other but nevertheless a win. A win much needed by Dallas going into this home game.

Dallas Quarterback Tony Romo threw for 308 yards, the most of his young career as a starter, he also threw two touchdowns, including a 51-yard bomb to Terrell Owens, and the now 5-4 Dallas Cowboys dominated Arizona 27-10 on Sunday. Romo was 20-of-29 with no interceptions and wasn't sacked in Dallas' third consecutive road game.

All three of his starts have come on the road. Next up is his home debut against Peyton Manning and the unbeaten Indianapolis Colts. Cowboys Defense also showed up to work by turning two interceptions by Matt Leinart into second-half touchdowns, sending the Cardinals (1-8) to their eighth straight loss.

Cowboys’ coach Bill Parcells was content with Sunday's victory against the Cardinals but acknowledged it came at great expense, considering the season-ending injury suffered by linebacker Greg Ellis. Ellis, one of the team's top pass rushers and a captain, tore his left Achilles tendon. He will have surgery on Tuesday. He was one of only two pressure players on the team, so losing him is bad news with Peyton Manning and the Colts coming to Dallas on Sunday.

The Colts got to 9-0 in less than impressive fashion, but it was good enough to beat the Bills. Despite having just 162 yards of total offense, Buffalo was in position to take the lead in the fourth quarter. However, kicker Rian Lindell, who had made his previous three field goals attempts, pushed a potential game-winning kick wide right.

The Colts offense proved it's more than just run and gun by running the final 6:22 off the clock. Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes combined for 148 yards on the ground, which complimented Peyton Manning’s efficient day behind center. Manning completed 27-of-39 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown.

With Buffalo content to slow down the Indianapolis Colts up-tempo offense, a restrained Manning relied on short throws, an effective ground game and a time-consuming final drive to lead the Indianapolis Colts past Buffalo 17-16 on Sunday – and into the NFL record book. Indy is the first team ever to have consecutive 9-0 records.

Colts have been winning games by close margins. Close but still wins, so a Colts -1 we like a ton, the total of 48½ can only hint a strong trend to believe in the over. Colts 10-0? Let’s see what happens.
