Saint Louis Rams 2006 NFC West Preview

The St. Louis Rams front office decided to go with first time head coach Scott Linehan to lead the team into the Post Martz era.  Linehan was the offensive corodinator for Nick Saban in Miami before taking the job with the Rams.  Linehan was partially responsible for resurrecting a struggling Dolphins offense.

Marc Bulger will start as the St. Louis Rams quarterback on opening day.  Bulger was injuried for part of 2005 but still racked up 2,297 yards and 14 touchdowns.  Bulger’s health will benefit from the new offensive system that is run focused that Linehan will install.  Steven Jackson will be the work horse of the offense this season.  Jackson ran for 1,046 yards and 8 touchdowns last season and his stats this season should increase by 20% or more.  Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce will remain the starting wide receivers and both should have reduced stats since the offense will be more run oriented.  The Rams drafted two tight ends in the 2006 NFL Draft.  Joe Klopfenstein and Dominique Bryd will compete for the starting tight end position.

Linehan brought in former New Orleans Saints head coach Jim Haslett as defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams.  Haslett will miss hard hitting safety Adam Archuleta since he signed with the Washington Redskins in the off season.  To help fill the void, the Rams signed La’Roi Glover, Corey Chavous and Will Witherspoon.  St. Louis expects first round draft pick Tye Hill from Clemson to start immediately as a cornerback.  The Rams defense will improve under Haslett.
