Tennesse Titans head to LP Field and Colts

by Thomas Jensen on Thursday, November 30th, 2006

The resilient Tennessee Titans measure up this weekend at LP Field against the tough Indianapolis Colts. Indy takes its game into Nashville to try and scratch one more win on their score card against a Tennessee Titans led by rookie quarterback Vince Young. The Titans seem like a team trying to end the season with a winning record, but at 4-7 and facing the most likely AFC South Division Champions, it will be hard to catch a win and move to 5-7.

Tennessee, led by Pacman Jones managed to recover a 21 point deficit on Sunday against the slipping New York Giants. In a signature game, he made two huge fourth quarter interceptions and added a nice, circling, 23-yard punt return to help key the best fourth-quarter comeback in Titans-Oilers franchise history. Tennessee erased a 21-0 deficit to beat the New York Giants 24-21.

Jones' first interception came on an Eli Manning overthrow of Plaxico Burress. The Giants tried to take advantage of Jones on a big blitz. Pacman turned the tables of the offense and took advantage of them.

Stretching as far as he could, he pulled a dagger from the air and Eli Manning was stunned. Jones’s second interception set up perfect field goal position, right from the spot he landed at, the Giants 49. The Titans were still a little too far. Cue in Young with 24 seconds left on the clock and the game tied. Two passes and 18 yards closer, Vince Young had placed Rob Bironas at the Giants own 31. With 6 seconds left the kick was good. Final.

Meanwhile the Indianapolis Colts led wire to wire in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Without Donovan McNabb the Eagles were not at their best although Jeff Garcia did not do a poor job replacing. Garcia threw for 140 yards and two touch downs on 19 completions of 24 attempts.

Obviously not enough against a newly established work horse in the likes of running back Joseph Addai who scored 4 running touch downs. Three of them were made before the end of the second quarter. Still sharing time with Dominic Rhodes, Addai has now fit in a lot better in the complicated Colts offense. What better team to try on the run if not against the Eagles? The Eagles are ranked 28th in the league against the pass rush allowing an average 139.5 yards. Addai ran for 171, Rhodes for 68.

On that same note, the 30th ranked Titans allow 147.7 rushing yards per game and 220.1 passing yards ranking 24th defense. The Colts are probably aware of this and since their ground attack is playing catch up with their spectacular passing game, it’s in the cards that they will rotate many more plays where Addai will be involved.

The Colts defense which ranks a little better this week is still weak and permits scores. They didn’t tighten up a lot more against after outscoring the Eagles, same tactic they use on other teams. The Colts are -7½ buy down to -7 if you want to feel more secure. The Total opens at 48. You can count on many scores. Colts and over, parlay and tease please. Sound like a square? I don’t care, take it to the bank.
