Will the Indianapolis Colts Go Undefeated in 2006?

by Thomas Jensen on Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Chicago Bears out of the race: Will the Indianapolis Colts Go Undefeated in 2006?San Jose, Costa Rica – November 7, 2006 – With the Chicago Bears' loss Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts are now the NFL's lone unbeaten team. The Colts, who have won at AFC powers Denver and New England, respectively, in the past two weeks, are the first team to start consecutive seasons at 8-0 since the Green Bay Packers did it three straight years from 1929-31.

What everyone wants to know is if Peyton Manning's team can match the 1972 Dolphins and go an entire season without a loss – Indy started 13-0 last season before dropping its first game.

The Colts will be favored in each of their next 7 games: vs. Buffalo, at Dallas, vs. Philadelphia, at Tennessee, at Jacksonville, vs. Cincinnati, at Houston. If the Colts can make it to 15-0, their season finale is against none other than the Dolphins.

‘We're not going to get too caught up in [going undefeated] because I think most of our guys have gone through it before,’ Coach Tony Dungy said.  One problem area Indianapolis may have to address if it hopes to make history is fix the run defense; it is allowing a league-worst 165.7 yards rushing per game
