PGA Tour: 2010 Farmers Insurance Open Predictions

by Scott Burgess on Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

The PGA Tour is back in full swing this week, Thurs 28-31, with the 2010 Farmers Insurance Open where the No.2 player in the world, Phil Mickelson makes his 2010 PGA debut. The Farmers Insurance Open takes place this week at Torrey Pines' North and South courses. Mickelson hasn’t played since ending the 2009 season with back to back wins and PGA oddsmakers at BODOG.com already have Phil Mickelson as 13/2 odds favorite to win the 2010 Farmers Insurance Open . Be sure to get your 2010 Farmers Insurance Open Predictions in now at BODOG.com

Phil Mickelson is a three time winner at Torrey Pines winning in 1993, 2000 and 2001. This event is held in his hometown and is very comfortable with its layout. Phil won four times on the PGA TOUR in 2009 despite missing three months of action. He’s gone into overdrive on his game after the debacle at Winged Foot in 2006 and ever since he’s been great. Every breakdown has been addressed and every strength has been kicked up a notch or two. The best golf instructor in the U.S.A, Butch Harmon has Phil hitting it longer and a bit straighter and thinking better. Putting Coach Dave Stockton took his putting up a few more notches. Team Mickelson has never seen their man more ready for a season . Nor have they seen him, as Harmon said, "more juiced."

Robert Allenby doesn’t have a great record at Torrey Pines, but he’s playing too well to pass up. Runner-up at the 2010 Sony Open followed December wins in South Africa and Australia.

Ernie Els finished T-12 at the 2010 Sony Open and says he’s ready for the monster course at Torrey Pines. Els last played the Buick Invitational here in 2005 where he finished tied for sixth. More recently he played good stuff here in the U.S. Open a couple of years back. He did win at Torrey Pines during the 1984 World Junior Championships. Ernie only had a second place finish on the PGA Tour last year, but has said he’s improved his game for this up comi9ng season. He’s got a new driver that he feels comfortable with. He averaged well over 300 yards in the Sony Open in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago, so more of that will come in handy at Torrey Pines.

Luke Donald missed the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii in his only start of the year, but Donald has a very good track record at Torrey Pines with four career top-10s, including second-place finishes in 2005 and 2004. Last year, he tied for seventh.
