PGA Tour: 2011 Waste Management Phoenix Open Odds & Picks

by Scott Burgess on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Phil Mickelson finished second last week at the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open and will try for his first win, in two starts, at this week’s 2011 Waste Management Phoenix Open. The Waste Management Phoenix Open takes place, Thursday Feb 3-7 at the famed TPC Scottsdale, in Phoenix. PGA oddsmakers have Phil Mickelson as 7/1 odds favorite to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Let’s take a look at the top favorites and my sleeper pick. 2011 Waste Management Phoenix Open Odds & PicksPhil Mickelson (7/1) will use his aggressive, strategic approach and he’ll have Bones tending the flag on every shot inside 100 yards. Kidding. But seriously, the former ASU Sun Devil (two wins, 9 top-10s here) will make it three victories in the Valley of the Sun.

Dustin Johnson (11/1) will make his second start at this event, which should be a perfect fit for his long-hitting style. Plus, he's finished in the top 10 in both of his 2010 starts, including last week's tie for third at Torrey Pines.

Nick Watney (18/1) set a course record at the Farmers Insurance Open last week by firing a 28 on his first nine holes in the final round. Watney has a fairly good track record at TPC Scottsdale with a T24 and a T12 in his last two starts.

Rickie Fowler (20/1) faltered last weekend with rounds of 73-74, but Fowler has history at TPC Scottsdale. He gave Hunter Mahan a run for his money last year before losing by a shot.

SLEEPER PICK: Jhonattan Vegas (33/1) had no experience at PGA West or Torrey Pines. This guy has 10 straight rounds in the 60s, and his swing is so on-plane, it's ridiculous. I love how he played for the win at the Bob Hope Classic. He’s currently first in FedEx Cup points.
