 The PGA Tour’s West Coast swing continues this week with the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club, just outside of Los Angeles. Last year’s winner Phil Mickelson looks to repeat as Champion, but this year he hasn’t had any luck on the West Coast. This year he’s played in three tournaments, he finished T-42 at the Buick Invitational, T-55 at the AT@T Pebble Beach and failed to make the cut at the FBR Open, where he was Champ in 2005. He hasn’t played like himself since losing out at the 2006 US Open. His scoring average is well above the tour average; his driving accuracy is below tour average as well as his scrambling game, which he is usually a master at. Do not pick Phil Mickelson to win. Mike Weir placed second at last week’s Pebble Beach Pro-am and he came in third at the 2009 Bob Hope Classic. He is a two-time Champ here winning back to back in 2003-04. His scoring average is well below the tour average, his driving accuracy is at par with the tour average, but his putts per round needs some work. I like Mike Weir to win the Northern Trust Open at 16/1 odds. Padraig Harrington has got off to a bad start this year finishing T-24 at the Buick Inv and he failed to make the cut at Pebble Beach. But don’t be fooled by this year’s slow start. Last year Padraig won the British Open, back to back, and he won the 2008 PGA Championship. He finished T-3 at the 2008 Northern Trust Open. Padraig Harrington is listed at 16/1 odds to win.
