The Florida Swing continues with the 8th Annual POD Championship at the famed Copperhead Course, at Innisbrook Resort. Last year’s winner Mark Calcavecchia will be looking to be the first player in the history of the tournament to repeat as Champion. It’s seems that BodogLife.com doesn’t think he can repeat as Mark Calcavecchia is listed as 40/1 underdog to win. Get your PGA Golf Pick in now!
Mark Calcavecchia will make his sixth start at the PODS Championship. Besides winning last year, he’s got three previous Top 25 finishes. He finished tied for 19th in 2006 and tied 24th in 2003. He became the first American to win since John Huston did it in the in augural event in 2000. He tied the course record for the lowest round shooting a 9-under par.
The majority of the winners have been internationally born players. Two time winner K.J. Choi will not be participating this year, same goes for one-time winner Vijay Singh.
Ernie Els is coming fresh off a win at the 2008 Honda Classic ending a four year winless drought. He was tied with Mark Calcavecchia going to the 15th green until Calcavecchia chipped over the green into rocks. Els finished 6-under par and waited in the club house to see if anyone could catch him. No one could. Ernie Els is the heavy favorite to win at 7/1 odds. Get your PGA Golf Pick in now!
2003 Champ Retief Goosen is looking to snap a two year winless streak on the PGA Tour. His last win was the 2005 International. This will be Goosen’s fifth appearance, he finished tied for 20th in 2004, tied for 44th in 2005 and he missed the cut in 2006. Bodog.com has Retief Goosen as 50/1 odds to win the POD Championship.
J.B. Holmes will be participating at the POD Championship. He won the 2008 FBR Open and he has two Top 10 finishes and three Top 25 finishes this year. This kid can smack the ball well over 300yds and he knows how to handle the pressure. J.B. Holmes is listed as 40/1 odds to win.
Several players who finished as runner-ups will be returning. They are Tommy Armour III and Jesper Parnevik (2004), Chad Campbell (2005), Paul Goydos (2006) and John Senden and Heath Slocum (2007).
Other Notables:

Bottom Line: International players are 6-2 SU in the history of the tournament and Ernie Els is hot off a win. With no Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson, I like his chances. Get your PGA Golf Pick in now! Receive a 10% sign-up bonus on your initial deposit.
