Tiger Woods looks to repeat as WGC –CA Championship this week at Doral Golf and Country Club. A total of 19 of the world’s top 20 players will be there to try and stop Tiger on his amazing winning streak. Bodog.com has Tiger Woods as 5/6 odds to win the 2008 WGC –CA Championship. Last year at Doral, Woods hung on to defeat Brett Wetterich by two strokes to capture his sixth WGC-CA Championship. Tiger has won five consecutive PGA starts overall, dating back to 2007 where he won the final two PGA Tour Playoffs, the BMW Championship and The Tour Championship. He currently has all three World Golf Championships trophies. He won the Accenture Match Play Championship earlier this year and also was victorious at the Bridgestone Invitational last summer. He’ll be looking for his seventh win at the WGC- CA Championship and his fourth in a row at a tournament he has won on six different golf courses in three countries. It’s easy to see why Bodog has him so heavily favored.
Ernie Els got his first win since 2004 when he claimed the Honda Classic. He’s played only three PGA Tour events this year, besides the win at the Honda Classic his only other decent finish was T33 at the last WGC event. Ernie claimed the CA Championship in 2004 when it was held in Ireland. Bodog.com has Ernie Els as 20/1 odds underdog to claim the CA Championship.
Phil Mickelson joins the cast this week after a dismal finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational where he finished T21. He has never won WGC-CA Championship at Doral or in fact at all. Mickelson comes in as 14/1 underdog to win. Phil has a win at the Northern Trust Open; he finished second at the FBR Open and finished T6 at the Buick Invitational. His game has been lackluster lately.
Vijay Singh is another player who has had some great finishes this year. In eight tourneys entered he has three Top 10 finishes. He finished T2 at Pebble Beach, T3 at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational and at the last WGC Championship he finished T5. He’s due for a big win. Vijay Singh is listed as 20/1 odds underdog to win the title.
Other Notables to Consider - Adam Scott – 28/1
- Jim Furyk – 33/1
- Sean O’Hair – 40/1
- Steve Stricker – 40/1
- Zack Johnson – 66/1
- Lee Westwood – 66/1
- J.B. Holmes – 125/1
- Luke Donald – 33/1
2008 WGC - CA Championship Tee Off: Thurs, Mar 20, 2008 11:30 PM ET Line: Bodog.com Pick: Tiger Woods 5/6
The Bottom Line: Match play can be very intimidating to players who have never played with Tiger. Some of these players have never played with such a huge crowd watching them and they feel massive amounts of pressure. If you give Tiger an inch, he will take a mile. Unless a top seeded player knocks Tiger out, he will remain the favorite. Get your PGA Pick in now at Bodog.com
