Golf's greatest event will get underway this Thursday, April 7th as the world's best players descend upon Augusta, Georgia for the 75th Masters Tournament. The season's first major will feature the usual list of suspects, including Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, vying for the coveted Green Jacket. 2011 Masters Odds have Mickelson, last year's winner, listed as a +500 moneyline favorite to earn his fourth Masters victory.
Phil Mickelson has had a rather forgettable year, but he does come into this week's event with a little momentum after 
scoring his first win of the season. Lefty captured the Shell Houston Open over the weekend with a seven under par score of 65.
Mickelson shot a 70 in both rounds one and two, but he totaled just 128 strokes over his last 36 holes to take the top spot on the leaderboard. Prior to his win at Houston, the four time major winner produced an average finish of 32.8 in his previous four events.
Mickelson won his third Green Jacket last year with a 16 under par score of 272; it marked his best winning score at Augusta National.
Tiger Woods, the second most favorite to win this week at +700 odds, has had a far worse year than Mickelson, producing an average finish of 27.8 in four events played. Woods' concerns are bigger than that, though, as he is mired in an epic slump, one that dates back to his highly public fall from grace in November of 2009.
Woods last win came at the BMW Championship in September of 2009, causing many to speculate that he may never surpass Jack Nicklaus' in major victories. Tiger currently owns 14 major championships, a tally that has him four behind the "Golden Bear".
Woods placed inside the top 10 just two times last year, one of those occasions came at Augusta National when he took fourth place with an 11 under par 277.
Other top contenders this week include Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, and Dustin Johnson. They are each listed at +2000 moneyline odds to win the tournament.
