Oddsmakers have three-time Masters Champion Phil Mickelson listed as a 6/1 odds favorite to win the Masters 2011. Be sure to get your 2011 Masters Predictions in early to beat the rush.
Phil Mickelson – is fresh off winning the 2011 Houston Open, by three shots, for his first victory since earning his third green jacket last April. Redstone Golf Club purposely makes their golf course to resemble Augusta so players have a better feel heading into the Masters. By winning the 2011 Houston Open, Mickelson has made himself the favorite. "It feels really good for me to have played well and gained some momentum heading into next week," Mickelson said. "I needed to have a week where I kind of put it together." And with that, he turned his focus toward Augusta. "I've got a big event next week and it's time," he said. "As much as I loved winning here and I'll look back on this in seven, eight days, this being a very special day. Right now, you know, I've got some work to do."Lefty is hoping he can repeat some history at Augusta this week. The 39-time tour winner is the last player to win the week prior to a Masters victory, capturing the BellSouth Classic in 2006 before earning his second green jacket. The Shell Houston Open became the run-up event to Augusta in 2007.
Tiger Woods 10/1 – has won the Masters four times, but since Augusta National was lengthened in 2006, the so-called second step in the “Tiger-proofing” of the course, Woods hasn’t added to his number of championships. Woods has not won, but was second on two occasions and finished third, fourth and sixth. Woods feels the changes have been especially tough on the par 5s, such as No. 2, which now requires a driver and a long iron instead of a driver and 8-iron. He said that in 1997 he hit driver and wedge into No. 15. In eight tournaments, including four of the last five, Woods has equaled or bettered par in each of the four tournament rounds and has shot under par in each of the four tournament rounds. How has he managed to not win at Augusta National over the last five years? In some cases he was beaten by a nose or failed to mount a challenge down the stretch. Twice the conqueror turned out to be Mickelson.
