The Masters oddsmakers at SBGglobal.com have Tiger Woods as +170 moneyline favorite to win the 2009 US Masters. Be sure to get your 2009 US Masters Odds in now at SBGglobal.com
Let’s take a look at the Top Three favorites at this year’s Masters.
Tiger Woods is fresh off his first win of 2009, and since knee surgery. Tiger sunk a putt on the final hole to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational, just as he did the year before. He won the Masters for the first time in 1997 by a record 12 strokes, a record that will never be broken. His next win would be back to back in 2001-02. He won by two strokes over David Duval in 2001, and then in 2002 over Retief Goosen by three strokes. Tiger wouldn’t have to wait long before his fourth green jacket as it came in 2005, after beating Chris DiMarco by three strokes. Since his last Masters win in 2005, Tiger has finished T-3 (2006), T-2 (2007) and he came in second place last year. Tiger has 14 Majors to his credit. He knows Augusta National like the back of his hand. It was reported that before his first win he had studied every bump, wave and hill on the undulating greens that Augusta is famous for. Once again Tiger Woods is listed as +175 moneyline fav to win the 2009 Masters.
Phil Mickelson comes in at second as the next fav to win, but after a poor outing at the 2009 Honda Classic, you can’t help but think he’s not a fav at all. However, Phil does have two wins on tour this year. He won the 2009 Northern Trust Open and he won the 2009 World Golf Championships-CA Championship, thanks to his superb short game. Phil has three Majors on his resume, two of which came at Augusta. His first Major, and green jacket, came in 2004 after a dramatic final birdie, on the 72nd hole, to beat Ernie Els by one stroke. His second green jacket came in 2006 after a two shot victory over Tim Clark. Since his last Masters win in 2006, Phil has finished T-24 (2007) and T-5 (2008). Phil Mickelson is listed at +600 to win his third green jacket.
Padraig Harrington has three Major wins, two which came in a row in 2008, and Padraig Harrington has a chance to go for the “Paddy-Slam”. He won the 2008 British Open over Ian Poulter and he won the season ending 2008 PGA Championship over Sergio Garcia. A Grand Slam is when you win all four Majors in a calendar year; a Paddy Slam would be all four Majors in a row but not in one calendar year. Tiger Woods is the only other golfer to do this. Padraigs’ best finish this year was at the 2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational where he came in T-11. His last two Masters apperances he finished T-7 (2007) and T-5 (2008).Padraig Harrington is listed at +1400 to win the Masters and his third consecutive Major.
