Masters Odds 2011: Lee Westwood vs Martin Kaymer Masters Picks

by Matt Foust on Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

The world's top two golfers, at least according to the official world golf rankings, have been pitted against one another by golf odds makers at this week's Masters. England's Lee Westwood and Germany's Martin Kaymer, who are both in Group 14 along with American Matt Kuchar, are scheduled to tee off at 10:19am tomorrow morning at Augusta National Golf Course. Westwood is listed as a -125 moneyline favorite to finish ahead of Kaymer in the latest Masters Odds 2011

Lee Westwood is not off to a glorious 2011 start as he has failed to record a single top 10 finish on either the European or Masters Odds 2011: Lee Westwood vs Martin Kaymer Masters PicksPGA Tours. Westwood is presently 34th in the European Tour's Race to Dubai standings with 64th, 77th, 15th, 17th, and 18th place finishes. Two of those five tournaments qualified as PGA events giving him four Tour apperances this season. His average finish in those is a mediocre 21st.

Despite his slow start, Westwood, the No. 2 ranked player in the world, has been phenomenal over the past two years. The Worksop, England native finished first in the Race to Dubai standings in 2009 and he followed that up with a third place finish in 2010. Westwood also put together an incredible PGA run last year, recording one victory and six top 10 finishes in 11 events played.

Westwood has yet to win a major, but he has been knocking at the door for quite some time. The 37 year old took second at the Masters and British Open last year and he placed third at both the British and PGA Championships in 2009.

Martin Kaymer has outpaced his European counterpart this season as he presently trails only Luke Donald in the Race to Dubai standings. Kaymer won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in January and he took second at the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championships in February; those two events served as his best results of the season.

Kaymer, a 26 year old from Dusseldorf, Germany, won his first major last season after posting an 11 under par 277 at the PGA Championship in September. He also placed in the top 10 at the British and U.S. Open Championships in 2010 with seventh and eighth place finishes respectively, but he missed the cut at Augusta.

In fact, Kaymer has never made the cut in his three runs at the Green Jacket, failing to reach the weekend in 2008 and 2009 as well.
