Masters Odds 2010: Ernie Els vs Tiger Woods Masters Picks: Sportsbook.com has paired the favorites to win this year's Masters, Tiger Woods and Ernie Els, in a head-to-head to match up in its Masters Odds 2010. Despite his stellar 2010 performance, the online bookmaker has Els listed as a +120 moneyline underdog to finish ahead of Woods in golf's most celebrated tournament.
Ernie Els, long considered one of the world's best golfers, began to fade from the picture some last season after failing to
win a tournament and missing the cut at both the Masters and U.S. Open. The South African has regained his form this year, though, recording wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and World Golf Championships in California. Els also sits atop the PGA Tour's moneylist heading into tomorrow's opening round at Augusta.
Els, who hails from Johannesburg, is a two time runner-up at the Masters, finishing second at the event in 2000 and 2004. However, he has been miserable at Augusta National since 2004, placing no better than 27th while averaging a 47.4 finish.
Tiger Woods has not played since November of 2009, embroiling himself in a personal scandal that cost him several sponsors as well as time on the course. The 34 year old appears to have emerged on the other side, though, and his presence at Augusta signals as much. Now the biggest question is how his game will respond to almost five months of down time.
Oddsmakers obviously feel Woods will be none the worse for wear as he is not only favored to beat Els, but also to win the Green Jacket. His past history at Augusta would suggest that is not a ridiculous notion, even with the respite. The Stanford product has four Masters wins and he has placed no worse than sixth in his last five showings at legendary venue.
