The best golfers in the world will gather at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Geogia to decide who takes home the first major of the 2008 season and the 72nd green jacket of the tournament. Expert Golf Handicapper Jeff Alexander weighs in with his 2008 Masters predictions for Point-Spreads.com.It comes as no surprise that Tiger Woods, already being penciled in as the greatest golfer of all time, is the odds on favorite at even money at BodogLife.com to win the 2008 Masters. Value hunters won't take even half a glance at Woods with those kinds of odds, and I expect even knowledgeable golf gamblers to steer clear of him as well as they would be getting no bang for their buck. Woods has four green jackets, but he hasn't tried one on for size since 2005. Still, no one is playing better golf than Tiger, who hadn't loss a tournament in more than six months until Geoff Ogilvy claimed the title at the CA Championship. Bet on your 2008 Masters Predictions on Tiger Woods 1/1 at BodogLife.com. If you're looking for a little more value, you may want to consider laying your money down on Phil "Lefty" Mickelson. You can bet him at 9-1 odds at Bodoglife.com. While it seemed like the talented Mickelson would never win a major, Lefty has found his groove in major events, winning three in the past four years. Two of those wins are green jackets at Augusta National. Mickelson was not able to defend his 2006 Master championship last season, so you can bet that he'll be hungry to add to his major total here. Jim Furyk is sure to get some action at 33-1 odds as value hunters like the consistency that he has shown. But Furyk only has one major win under his belt, coming in the 2003 U.S. Open and has not fared well in the Masters. He tied for 22nd in 2006 and 13th last year. My advice is to stay away from Furyk. Sergio Garcia is another guy that value hunters may look at showing great value at 40/1 odds. When Garcia first burst onto the scene, he looked to be a force to be reckoned with, but he has struggled the past couple seasons, not winning a tournament in over two years. Garcia challenged at Augusta in 2002 with an 8th place finish and tied for fourth in 2004, but he missed the cut in 2005 and 2007 and finished 46th in 2006. Garcia always plays his best golf at The Open Championship. I don't see him challenging at Augusta. Ernie Els is a guy that many will be looking at in this competition and he will give you a solid return on your money at 18-1 odds. He has two U.S. Open Championships under his belt and has won The Open Championship as well, but his last major victory came in 2002 and I'm beginning to think the limelight has passed him by, despite the attention he receives from bettors. From 2000-2004 Els strongly challenged at Augusta, finishing in the top six all five years, and coming in runner-up twice. Since, his best finish is 27th and he did not make the cut last year. Vijay Singh is showing slightly better value than Els at 22-1 odds at Bodoglife.com and is a much better option to cash your ticket. Singh has one green jacket, which he won in 2000, but since he has finished in the top eight in five of the last seven years. 2007 was a down year for Singh in majors and I look for him to bounce back with a much better showing in 2008. In four of the last five tournaments, Singh has finished fifth or better, including two runner-up finishes – one of those came last weekend at the CA Championship. Singh is playing great golf and showing great value and I think he is the golfer that will cash your bets at the 2008 Masters. Bet your 2008 Masters Predictions on Vijay Singh 22/1 at BodogLife.com. BodogLife.com has posted PGA Golf betting odds on the 2008 Masters: Tiger Woods 1/1 Phil Mickelson 9/1 Ernie Els 18/1 Vijay Singh 22/1 Padraig Harrington 28/1 Retief Goosen 28/1 Sergio Garcia 40/1 Jim Furyk 33/1 Justin Rose 40/1 Geoff Ogilvy 33/1 Adam Scott 33/1 Luke Donald 50/1 Paul Casey 66/1 K.J. Choi 33/1 Trevor Immelman 80/1 Angel Cabrera 66/1 Henrik Stenson 40/1 Zach Johnson 40/1 David Toms 80/1 Stewart Cink 50/1 Rory Sabbatini 40/1 Stuart Appleby 66/1 Tim Clark 66/1 Chris Dimarco 80/1 Charles Howell III 80/1 Davis Love III 125/1 Jose Maria Olazabal 80/1 The Field ( Any Other Golfer) 5/2 |
