2009 US Open Picks: Australian Geoff Ogilvy, the current number one on the PGA Tour's 2009 money list at $3,319,045, has been listed at 18 to 1 betting odds by Bodog.com to win his second US Open. 2009 US Open Picks at the online bookmaker have only Tiger Woods (3/2) and Phil Mickelson (12/1) listed as more likely winners in this week's tournament.
Geoff Ogilvy, who debuted on the PGA Tour in 1999, is having a wonderful 2009 season to this point. The Australian has recorded four top 10 finishes in 12 events and has yet to miss a cut. He also has two wins to his credit this year, the WGC: Accenture Match which took place in March and the Mercedes-Benz Championship which was played in early January.
Ogilvy finished a 4-under-par 10th in his last event, The Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio which concluded on June 7th. The 32 year old hit a rough patch prior to his solid Memorial finish, coming in 32nd, 22nd, and 59th in the three tournaments leading up to it. Despite that lackluster stretch, Ogilvy remains first in birdies this season with an average of 3.94 per round and second in putting with an average of 1.710 per hole.
The native of Adelaide, Australia finished ninth in the US Open last year, but won the event in 2006 by shooting a 5-over-par 285 at the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York. That victory was the first and only major win of his career.
Ogilvy finished 15th at this year's Masters with a 5-under-par total of 283.
The 2009 US Open will take place this week at the Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York. The tournament will be played on the Park's Black Course, a 7505 yard Par 70 monster that served as home for the US Open in 2002. NBC Sports will provide coverage of the event, which is set to tee off on Thursday, June 18th at 7:00am ET.
