2009 US Open Predictions: Last year's US Open champion, Tiger Woods, has been installed as a 2 to 1 betting odds favorite by online bookmaker Bodog.com in their 2009 US Open Predictions. Woods won his second tournament of the year on June 7th, taking the Memorial at Muirfield Village Golf Course in Dublin, Ohio by one stroke over Jim Furyk.
This year's US Open will be played at the legendary Bathpage Black Course at the Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York. The Par 70 course is 7,505 yards long and is renowned as one of the most difficult courses on the tour. Play is set to begin at 7:00am ET on Thursday, June 18th.
When the US Open tees off on Thursday morning, Tiger Woods will be vying to become the fifth golfer to record four US Open victories. Jack Nicklaus, Bob Jones, Willie Anderson, and Ben Hogan all won the event four times while Woods has notched wins in 2000, 2002, and 2008.
The 33 year old Woods, who is scheduled to tee off at 8:06am ET on Thursday with Padraig Harrington and Angel Cabrera, recorded a four day score of 277 the last time the event was played at Bethpage Black, a tally good enough to capture the 2002 title. However, his most memorable US Open win came in June of last year at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California.
Woods, who played with a torn ACL in his left knee and a double stress fractrue in his left leg, was tied with Rocco Mediate at 283 after 72 holes, but won the sudden death playoff with Mediate 4 to 5 on the par 4 seventh hole to complete his stirring victory. The Stanford product elected to have surgery on his damaged knee after the event and missed the next eight months of PGA action to recover from the injury.
In addition to his win at the Memorial, Woods also took first place at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge back in March. Tiger finished sixth at the Masters this year with an eight under par 280.
