2010 US Open Picks: The season's second major is set to get underway later this week as the 2010 U.S. Open tees off on Thursday, June 17th at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California. The event can be seen live starting on Thursday; ESPN will provide coverage from 1:00pm to 3:00pm ET and 5:00pm to 10:00pm ET. NBC will televise the action from 3:00pm to 5:00pm ET. 2010 US Open Picks at online bookmaker SBGglobal.com have 2010 Masters winner Phil Mickelson and three time US Open champion Tiger Woods listed as +650 moneyline co-favorites to win this weekend's tournament.
Phil Mickelson enters this week's U.S. Open as, perhaps, the hottest golfer on tour. The 39 year old started the year slowly,
finishing an average of 25th in seven events prior to his win at Augusta; however, his average placement from then until now is an impressive 6.25 (does not include him missing the cut at the Colonial in late May). Mickelson last played at the Memorial almost two weeks ago, where he finished fifth with an 11 under par score of 277.
"Lefty", who has four major wins to his credit, has never won the U.S. Open. He has performed well in the tournament on numerous occasions, though, placing inside the top 10 eight times in 20 appearances. Mickelson finished two strokes back of last year's champion, Lukas Glover, at Bethpage Black in Farmington, New York.
Tiger Woods personal woes have been well documented and it would appear that his troubles at home are affecting his performance on the golf course. Woods best outing of the season came at the Masters, which was also marked the end of his self-imposed exile from golf, where he took fourth place with a score of 277 (-11). Since that solid showing, the world's top-ranked golfer has missed a cut (Quail Hollow), withdrawn from THE PLAYERS Championship, and finished 19th at the Memorial.
Rounding out the top five favorites in SBGglobal.com's 2010 US Open Picks are Lee Westwood (+900), Ernie Els (+1500), and Padraig Harrington (+1800). Els and Harrington have combined to win six major championships while Westwood has finished inside the top three in the last three majors, including a second place run at Augusta in April.
