2009 US Open Golf Tournament Odds, Picks & PredictionsThe top golfers in the world will be in Farmingdale, N.Y., this weekend for the 109th U.S. Open – the second major of the 2009 season. The host course is Bethpage State Park – Black Course, which is one of the hardest courses on tour, especially at U.S.G.A standards. The Open was held here back in 2002 which Tiger Woods won and he is the defending Champion from 2008. PGA oddsmakers at SBGglobal.com have Tiger Woods as +150 moneyline favorite to win the 2009 US Open. Be sure to get your 2009 US Open Golf Tournament Odds, Picks & Predictions in now at SBGglobal.com

Let’s take a look at the top favorites and who could be a sleeper pick:

Tiger Woods
is a three time US Open winner and obvious favorite to win this week. He won last year in dramatic fashion, over Rocco Mediate, by sinking a putt on the 18th hole to force a 18 hole playoff. Tiger won on the first hole of sudden-death playoff following an 18-hole playoff. In winning the 2008 U.S. Open, Woods became just the second man, after Jack Nicklaus, to win each of the majors at least three times. This year Tiger has made seven of seven cuts with two wins. He won the 2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational, the 2009 Memorial Tournament and he also has three Top 10 finishes. Tiger has two second place finishes and one third place during 14 US Open appearances.

Phil Mickelson has come close to a US Open but it has eluded him in 19 appearances. He has four second place finishes and three in the Top 10. He had a one shot lead at the 18th hole in the final round in the 2006 US Open. He opted out of using a simple three wood to find the fairway and instead used his driver which proved costly. He bogeyed and handed the US Open to Geoff Ogilvy.  Phil has two wins on tour this year; he won the 2009 Northern Trust Open and the 2009 World Golf Championships-CA Championship. He has six Top 10 finishes this year. Phil Mickelson is listed at +800 odds to win his first US Open.

Padraig Harrington is a three time Major winner who recently won the British Open back to back in 2007-08 and he won the 2008 PGA Championship, considered the fifth Major. His best finishes at an US Open was T-5 in 2000 and 2006. But he has struggled in his last two appearances, in 2007 he failed to make the cut and last year he finished T-36. He’s made seven of 12 cuts this year with no wins; has three Top 25 finishes. Padraig Harrington is listed at +2500 odds to win the US Open.

Sleeper Pick – Brian Gay will make his first US Open appearance after winning last week’s St. Jude Classic. This was his second win on tour; he won the 2009 Verizon Heritage after showing superb shot making and excellent putting. In fact he’s won two tournaments by a combined 15 strokes over the second place finishers. Brain Gay is listed as FIELD (Any Other Player) at +200 odds to win his first Major.
