US Open 2009: The US Open tees off this Thursday, June 18th at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York. Most eyes will be on Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson when things get underway later this week and oddsmakers at Bodog.com have given bettors an opportunity to pick a head-to-head winner between the two rivals in their US Open 2009: Tiger Woods vs Phil Mickelson Betting Odds. Woods is currently listed as a -450 moneyline favorite to finish ahead of Mickelson in this year's US Open.
Phil Mickelson, currently third on the 2009 PGA Tour's money list, will be playing in just his second event since the THE PLAYERS Championship in early May. The 39 year old took some time off from the Tour to be with his wife who had been diagnosed with breast cancer. However, when her surgery was delayed until August, Mickelson decided to make an early return in order to participate in the St. Jude Classic last weekend.
Mickelson has two wins this year (Northern Trust Open, World Golf Championships- CA Championship) and five top 10 finishes, but he has not fared that well in his last two outings. Mickelson finished 55th at THE PLAYERS and 59th at the St. Jude Classic.
Lefty, who has won three majors in his career, has never won the US Open. He finished second to Tiger at the 2002 Open, which was also played at the Black Course at Bethpage State Park. The San Diego native has played against Woods in five events this year and has finished ahead of him just two times.
Mickelson edged out Woods at the 2009 Masters, finishing fifth to Woods sixth. Mickelson's last major win occurred in 2006 at Augusta National.
