US Open 2009: Rain has delayed the first round proceedings at the 2009 US Open. Consequently, golf bettors will have to wait before receiving any 1st rd payouts from their head-to-head wagers. Action is scheduled to resume at 7:30am ET tomorrow morning at the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York. Tiger Woods, online bookmaker Bodog.com's favorite to win the US Open 2009, is presently tied for 12th on the leaderboard.
Only half of the 156 player field was able to tee off this morning at Bethpage State Park. The current leader, American Jeff Brehaut, along with five other golfers, was able to make it through 11 holes before the USGA decided to call it a day. Brehaut, who was listed at 300 to 1 betting odds prior to tee off, is tied with Johan Edfors, Andrew Parr, and Ryan Spears at 1-under-par.
Golf oddsmakers at Bodog.com provided a number of head-to-head betting opportunites for the 2009 US Open, but the potential turnout in most of the pairings is, obviously, still up in the air.
Retief Goosen, who was pitted against Steve Stricker, has yet to tee off, while Stricker is 1-over-par through six holes. Australian Geoff Ogilvy and his rival, Jim Furyk, are both at 1-over-par through five holes. 2009 Masters winner Angel Cabrera is outdueling Zach Johnson in their matchup; the Argentinan is even par through six while Johnson is 2-over-par through five.
Tiger Woods, now listed as a 15 to 8 betting odds favorite, is 1-over par through six holes. Phil Mickelson, Tiger's head-to-head opponent in Bodog.com's pairings, has yet to tee off. Sergio Garcia is in the same boat as Mickelson, but backers of the Spaniard have to be feeling pretty good as his rival, Irishman Padraig Harrington, is already 4-over-par through the first six holes.
The Swedish born, Johan Edfors, like Jeff Brehaut, was listed at 300 to 1 betting odds before things got underway this morning. He and his co-leader can now be picked up at 100 to 1 odds. Andrew Parr and Ryan Spears, however, are no longer listed individually and would fall under the Field at 5 to 1 betting odds.
