2010 US Open Results: Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell hit his way to the top of the US Open leaderboard today with a three under par second round score of 68. McDowell, who was listed at +8000 moneyline odds at Sportsbook.com prior to the tournament's start, has sole possession of first place after 36 holes of play. Following the Irishman at one under par are Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Dustin Johnson, and Ryo Ishikawa.
Graeme McDowell, the world's 37th ranked golfer, followed up the five birdies he hit yesterday with six more this afternoon
to bring his two day US Open tally to 139 (-3). The 30 year old overcame bogeys on holes 10 and 12 with back nine birds on 11, 14, 16, and 18.
His presence atop the leaderboard is somewhat surprising given the fact that he has produced just one top 10 finish on Tour this year; however, he is currently 12th in the European Tour's Race to Dubai Rankings and he finished fourth and first in his last to events across the pond.
Phil Mickelson, who is chasing his first US Open title, exacted a tremendous turnaround today in order to drop his two day score to one under par. Mickelson finished play yesterday with a four over par tally of 75, but he hit the clubhouse this evening with a five under par 66 after hitting five birdies on the front nine.
Tiger Woods, a co-favorite to win this weekend at +600 moneyline odds, finds himself tied for 31st heading into the weekend at four over par (146). Woods finished one over par today, despite hitting three birdies.
The cut score at Pebble Beach came in at 150 or eight over par. Some of the notables to miss the cut include Rory McIlroy and Geoff Ogilvy.
