2010 British Open Odds: The chase for the coveted Claret Jug begins Thursday, July 15th at the Old Course at St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland. Tiger Woods has seen both his personal life as well as his golf game suffer over the past several months; however, despite
his epic troubles, he cannot escape being the favorite at a major championship. That makes sense in this case, though, as Woods has won the last two Open Championships at St. Andrews by a combined 33 strokes.
Woods, who has played in just six PGA events this season, has also reserved his best golf for the majors as he finished fourth at the Masters in April and fourth at the U.S. Open last month. Outside of those two top 10 results, the California native has missed the cut, withdrawn, placed 19th, and placed 46th.
Woods missed the cut for the first time at a major at last year's Open Championship, shooting a 145 through the first two days of action at Turnberry.
Several players are bunched behind Woods at +1500 moneyline odds, including Lee Westwood, Justin Rose, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, and Ernie Els. Of that group, Westwood has probably played the best golf this season, despite Els being the top money earner on the Tour. Els has two wins this year and has finished third in two of the last four PGA Events, including the U.S. Open, but he missed the cut at the other two. Westwood has just one PGA win this season (St. Jude's Classic), but he has placed inside the top five, including a second place turn at the Masters, in three of his last five PGA Events.
England's Justin Rose may the hottest player, though, as he has recorded three straight top 10 finishes, including wins at the Memorial in early June and the AT&T National just two weekends ago.
