2009 British Open 1st Round Match Up Odds: With the 137th British Open teeing off this Thursday morning, Bodog.com has released their British Open 1st round match up odds. There are several intriguing pairings, including Tiger Woods vs Sergio Garcia and Paul Casey vs Ian Poulter. Woods, who is listed as a 2 to 1 betting odds favorite to win the Open Championship, is a -500 moneyline favorite to finish ahead of Garcia in the bookmaker's 2009 British Open 1st Round Match Up Odds. Sergio Garcia, who is presently ranked fifth in the World Golf Rankings, will be playing in his 11th PGA event of the season when he tees off at Turnberry on Thursday morning. The 29 year old Spaniard has missed the cut twice this year and produced just one top 10 finish, placing 10th at the U.S. Open last month with a 2-over par 282. Garcia, who has a 71.16 scoring average this year, has posted a first round scoring average of 70. Sergio and Tiger have played in five common events in 2009, those being THE PLAYERS Championship, The Masters, the U.S. Open, the World Golf Championships in California, and the Quail Hollow Championship. Woods has had a better first round score than Garcia in three of the five common tournaments. Garcia recorded the better opening round at the U.S. Open and the two tied at THE PLAYERS Championship with an opening total of 71. Woods, who has 68 wins in 245 PGA events played, has manufactured a 69.28 scoring average this season. His first round average is a slightly worse 69. Paul Casey, a native Cheltenham, England, will also be playing in his 11th PGA tournament of the year when he hits the tee box on Thursday. Casey, who is currently 11th on the 2009 PGA money list, has one win and three top 10 finishes this season. The Arizona State graduate's victory at the Shell Houston Open in April was the first win of his professional career. Casey, whose season scoring average is 70.7, has had more difficulty in the first round as evidenced by his 71.2 opening round average. The 31 year old and his English rival, Ian Poulter, have played in six common PGA events this year. Poulter came out of the box stronger four times in those six tournaments. Casey, who has missed the cut in the last two tournaments he has entered, posted the better first day tally at the Memorial Tournament in June while the pair tied at the Crowne Plaza Invitational in May (66). Ian Poulter, who is getting even -115 moneyline odds in his first round pairing with Casey, has turned in a 70.6 scoring average both on the season and in first round play. The 33 year old Stevenage, England product does not have a PGA win to his credit, but he has finished inside the top 10 on 17 occasions (96 events).
