2009 British Open Predictions: The Ailsa Course at Turnberry in South Ayrshire, Scotland will serve as host for the 137th British Open this week. The site was also the home of the Open Championship in 1977, 1986, and 1994. Play is scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 16th at 6:30am Open time and 12:30am ET. 2009 British Open Predictions at Bodog.com are favoring Tiger Woods to win his first go-round at Turnberry as he is presently listed as at 2 to 1 betting odds. Tiger Woods has never played at Turnberry, but he has put plenty of time in on the legendary course over the past week. Given Woods success at links courses like St. Andrews, he should not have too difficult a time adapting to the nuances of Ailsa. Regardless of how things turnout this weekend, the 33 year old has been impressed with the site during his practice rounds. "The course is fantastic," said the 2009 British Open Predictions favorite. "It's in great shape and the rough is up a little bit. We haven't had the big winds yet and we'll have to see how the weather holds out. But all in all this is just a fabulous golf course." Woods enters this week's tournament in search of his 15th major title and his fourth Claret Jug. The Cypress, California native will be playing in his 10th PGA event of the season; he has garnered three wins and eight top 10 finishes in 2009. In addition to Woods, there will be a number of eyes on 20 year old phenom Rory McIlroy at this week's British Open. McIlroy, who finished tied for 42nd at the 2007 Open Championship, will be playing in his fourth career major. The Northern Ireland native finished 20th at this year's Masters with a 2-under par 286 and he placed 10th at the U.S. Open last month with a final score of 282 (+2). McIlroy, in spite of his tremendous potential, downplayed all the attention he has garnered in the lead up to Thursday's start. "I'm just a golfer," said McIlroy, who is a 22 to 1 betting odds favorite. "I'm nothing special. I just go out and I play my golf and I'm usually pretty good at it."
