Be sure to get your 2009 British Open: Padraig Harrington vs Rory McIlroy Prediction in now at Bodog.comPadraig Harrington the two-time defending champ, three time Major winner, has been in anything but in championship form lately. At the last two Majors he has finished T-35 at the 2009 Masters and he failed to make the cut at the 2009 US Open. He’s made seven of 13 cuts this year with no wins and no Top 10 finishes. His best finish canme at the Arnold Palmer Invitational where he finished T-11. But given his resent slump, he won his third consecutive Ladbrokes Irish PGA Championship recently and has been practicing at Ailsa Course to find a little magic. Allowed to use the course, instead of the practice area, for practice, Harrington and Torrance headed out to work on three holes and wound up playing 18 each of two days. “I would say he missed four fairways in all that time,” Torrance told The Scotsman. “I think I understood a bit of his thinking for the first time in 13 years. He hit two of the left and I said, ‘What happened there?’ He replied, ‘I just wanted to see what was over there, in case I happen to be over there in the tournament.’” Padraig ranks T43rd in Eagles (Holes per) on the PGA Tour. Rory McIlroy has a slight edge at Turnberry when he won their as an Amateur. McIlroy of Northern Ireland is a player to watch after he was the youngest player ever to reach the Top 50 in the World Golf rankings. This earned him a trip to the 2009 Masters only 18 months after turning pro. His first professional win came when he won the Dubai Desert Classic on 1 February 2009, this win took him to 16th in the world rankings. In the 2009 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, McIlroy reached the quarterfinals only to lose to Geoff Ogilvy 2 & 1. At the 2009 Masters he finished the tournament tied for 20th place, two shots under par for the tournament. Of the players to make the cut, McIlroy achieved the third highest average driving distance. McIlroy then returned to Europe and recorded two top 25 finishes leading up to his first U.S. Open. He finished fifth at the BMW PGA Championship and 12th at the European Open. McIlroy played in his second major as a professional at the 2009 U.S. Open. His final round of 68 (-2) helped him finish in a tie for 10th, his first top ten finish in a major. He has a big advantage this year at the Open based on his great play in Europe and his driving is superb. Rory McIlroy is listed at 22/1 odds to win his first British Open. 2009 British Open When: Thurs, July 16-19 1:30 AM ET Line: Bodog.com Pick: Padraig Harrington -105 Point-Spreads.com 2009 British Open: Padraig Harrington vs Rory McIlroy The Bottom Line: You have to go with experience and Padraig has lots of it in the Majors.
