When Vijay Singh first tees it up at 2:20am EST on July 17th, he will be doing so for the 63rd time in a major championship. The 45 year old Fiji native has three major wins under his belt; however, he has never won the British Open despite playing in it 20 times. Still, the veteran golfer represents good value at the 33/1 odds he is getting at BodogLife.com.
Singh has had a decent 2008 season heading into the 137th Open Championship. He is curre
ntly number eight on the money list and has five top 10 finishes in 15 events played. Vijay also possesses a 70.4 average and 10,309 FedEx Cup points. His last win, however, dates back to the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March of 2007.
While most of the golfers in this year's field have played at the Royal Birkdale, Singh has been around long enough to see the course in both the 1991 and 1998 British Opens, finishing 12th and 19th respectively. The Birkdale is 155 yards longer than it was in the last Open, but it is still more of a thinking man's course. Singh certainly can bring some power to the links but his ability to hit greens in regulation (currently seventh on the tour) will aid him this weekend.
BodogLife.com golf betting odds has SIngh matched up against Austrailian Geoff Ogilvy in the first round of Open play tomorrow. Both golfers are receiving -115 odds in the head to head listing. Singh is listed at 33/1 odds to win his first British Open while Ogilvy is getting 25/1 odds to win his second major championship.
BodogLife.com's opening day score odds for Singh are 72 and under (-125) and 73 and over (-110).
