2009 Buick Open Update: Tiger Woods shot a 7-under par 65 today to take the lead at the Buick Open in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Woods, who is chasing his fourth win of the season, is sitting at 199 through the first three rounds of action. Matt Letzig stayed in second place on the leaderboard after finishing today's round with a score of 68.
Tiger Woods, much like yesterday, blistered the front nine at Warwick Hills Golf Club, scoring birdies on holes 2, 3, 4, and 7. He did not let up after the turn as he recorded four more birds on the back nine. If he is able to hold onto the lead through tomorrow's fourth round, it will mark his third tournament win in his last five events.
Matt Letzig has not let the aura of Tiger get to him yet as he continues to pursue his first PGA victory. The 29 year old maintained his composure this afternoon and finished in the sixties for the third straight day. His three day total is now a 16-under par 200.
Letzig has played in 21 events this season; he has just two top 10 finishes, but he has missed the cut only once.
Sitting in third is Brisbane, Australia native John Senden. Senden led through the first two rounds of play after hitting a 64 on Thursday and a 66 yesterday. He shot a 1-under par 71 this afternoon to put him at 15-under for the tournament. Senden has four top 10 finishes this year, but he has only one career PGA victory, that coming back in 2006.
Tomorrow's fourth and final round will tee off at approximately 7:00 am ET. The event will be broadcast live on CBS.
