majors, but rebounded with a solid showing at the Open Championship last month. McIlroy placed third at the Old Course with an eight under par 280, overcoming a horrific second day which saw the Northern Ireland native hit an 80. The third place result at St. Andrews matched McIlroy's best finish at a major as he also took third at last season's PGA Championship.
While McIlroy missed the cut in two of his last seven PGA events, he finished an average of 10th in the other five, including a win at the Wells Fargo Championship in April. McIlroy, who is 23rd on the Tour's moneylist, finished ninth in his last event, the World Golf Championships- Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club with a five under 275.
Padraig Harrington has three major championships on his resume, but he has not performed that well on the big stage this season. The Dublin native missed the cut at the Masters and Open Championship while placing 22nd at the U.S. Open. Despite those poor showings, Harrington has produced five top five finishes in 15 PGA events this year, which has him ranked 44th on the Tour's moneylist.
McIlroy is the safer pick in this head-to-head showdown. Not only has he played more consistent golf this season, he is 4-0-1 against Harrington in their last five shared tournaments where both made the cut.
