To the surprise of no-one, the worlds top golfer Tiger Woods has been installed a 3/2 odds favorite to win the Deutsche Bank Championship golf tournament held annually on Labor Day weekend at the Tournament Players Club of Boston. The total purse at this year’s tournament totals $7-million with $1,260,000 going to the winner. The tournament tees off on Friday, August 31st and ends on Labor Day, September 2nd. Woods, a five time winner in 2007 including one major, will be seeking back to back championships at the Boston event having won last year.
The tournament is part of the FedEx Cup starting in 2007, which is a new playoff series of tournaments to which the overall points winner receives ten million dollars.
Phil Mickelson, the No. 3 player in the Official World Golf Rankings, has the second best odds to win Deutsche Bank with 15-1 odds followed by Australian Adam Scott at 20/1. World No. 3 Jim Furyk, is one of four players with a 25/1 odds chance of winning the tournament. The other players installed with 25/1 odds are Vijay Singh, K.J. Choi, and Justin Rose.
