For your 2007 Memorial Tournament predictions, look no further than Jeff Alexander. He has researched the ins and outs of the field comparing how it stacks up to Muirfield Village Golf Club, and he has found his Memorial Winner. Jeff Alexander highlights the contenders and then shows you why he likes who he likes in this star-studded tournament.
Phil Mickelson is hotter than south Florida right now with three consecutive top three finishes in his last three tournamenst including a win at the prestigious Players Championship. He tied for fourth here last year, but a course with this many bunkers an obstacles does not favor his game. We’re talking about a guy who doesn’t rank in the top 60 in greens hit in regulation. Phil is not going to play as well as he did at Sawgrass. It’s very hard for players to get back up after such a highly emotional win. We’ll fade Phil here.
I’m not going to say too much about last year’s champ Carl Pettersson. He shows amazing value at 100/1 odds but rightfully so. This guy doesn’t stand a chance against this stacked field.
I’m tossing out other favorites Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, and Ernie Els to make Master’s Champ Zach Johnson my man this weekend. After the Master’s win, he played solid at the Verizon Heritage earning 6th but then faltered at Wachovia and The Players. He found his swing at the AT&T Classic where he collected the first place purse and he will now be ready to tear up the links at the Memorial.
He finished second in this event last year which is held at a course that Jack Nicklaus designed to resemble August National. So it comes as no surprise that he has performed well at the Masters and the Memorial. He has done his damage with his driver in 2007 ranking 3rd on the tour in driving accuracy. This has made easy work for him on his approach shots. At 33/1 odds he is showing fantastic value. We’ll waste no time chalking Zach Johnson up for a win at the 2007 Memorial Tournament.
