All of the best golfers in the world are going to try to find their “A” game this week at Oakmont and Point-Spreads.com has decided to assist golf bettors with our 2007 US Open Preview. The major tournament starts takes place between June 14th-17th at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. When you think of a major golf tournament, two names come to mind: Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. As always, Woods is the favorite at +200 odds at WagerWeb.com, followed by Mickelson at +800 golf betting odds. Both Woods and Mickelson would like to forget their performances at Winged Foot at last year’s Open. Tiger Woods miss the cut for the first time in his career and thus never had a chance to make one of legendary late charges or last stands in the final round. Mickelson looked in command to take his first US Open title before his complete meltdown on the 72nd hole. Poor Phil handed the major championship title to Geoff Ogilvy. Ogilvy is listed at +3300 to repeat at US Open Champion. Lefty sat out of the the US Open warmup at the Stanford St. Jude Championship to give his wrist some rest. Point-Spreads.com has learned that Mickelson should be ready to go, but when it comes to wrists and golf you can never be too sure. This is the eighth time that the US Open will be played at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania with the last time coming in 1994. In that year, Ernie Els defeated Loren Roberts and Colin Montgomerie in a Monday playoff to win his first major championship. Els is a definite contender to repeat at Oakmont, with WagerWeb.com listing Ernie Els at +1950 golf betting odds but there will be plenty of competition aside from the “Usual Suspects” ala Tiger and Mickelson. Vijay Singh has yet to win the US Open, but with two tournament wins already this season there is no reason he can’t climb back to the top of the leaderboard of this weekend’s major. Masters champion Zach Johnson was also forced to withdraw from the Memorial a few weeks ago due to a nasty bout of strep throat, but he should be back in top form by this weekend and in search of his second major win this season. Even though the winner of the tournament that precedes the 2007 US Open has never gone on to win the major, don’t count out Woody Austin who won the St. Jude Championship last weekend. Austin put together a masterful final round last Sunday, shooting a remarkable 62, and if he can match that level of play at Oakmont he could make history at Oakmont. WagerWeb.com has posted golf betting odds on who will win the 2007 US Open: Tiger Woods: +260 Phil Mickelson: +900 Jim Furyk: +1200 Ernie Els: +1950 Vijay Singh: +1500 Adam Scott: +2500 Retief Goosen: +2000 Sergio Garcia: +3300 Luke Donald: +3300 Padraig Harrington: +2000 Zach Johnson: +4000 Geoff Ogilvy: +3300 Justin Rose: +4000 Stewart Cink: +4000 Henrik Stenson: +3000 Rory Sabbatini: +5000 David Toms: +3000 KJ Choi: +4000 Trevor Immelman: +6600 Sean Ohair: +6600 Robert Allenby: +6600 Paul Casey: +6600 Arron Oberholser: +5000 Rod Pampling: +8000 Scott Verplank: +8000 Steve Stricker: +6600 Mike Weir: +8000 Stephen Ames: +10000 Angel Cabrera: +10000 Tim Clark: +10000 Jerry Kelly: +8000 Anthony Kim: +12500 Nicl Ohern: +10000 Stuart Appleby: +9000 Aaron Baddeley: +8000 Charles Howell III: +12500 Ryuji Imada: +12500 Colin Montgomerie: +10000 Jose Maria Olazabal: +12500 Ian Poulter: +12500 Vaughn Taylor: +12500 Lee Westwood: +12500 Woody Austin: +15000 Chris DiMarco: +15000 Fred Funk: +15000 Lucas Glover: +12500 Davis Love III: +10000 Ryan Moore: +10000 Carl Pettersson: +15000 John Rollins: +12500 Brandt Snedeker: +15000 Boo Weekley: +15000 Chad Campbell: +15000 Michael Campbell: +20000 |
