Phil Mickelson will tee it up in this weeks PGA Bob Hope Chrysler Classic as a 9/2 favorite to win the tournament according to Bodog.com offshore sportsbook and casino. Rounding out the top five favorites are Justin Rose at 10/1, Mike Weir, 15/1, Chad Campbell, 18/1 and John Senden at 20/1. The field is favored at 4/1.
Mickelson might be a good bet too if his 2007 early season begins as well as his start a year ago winning the Bell South Classic and the Masters on successive weeks. The win at Augusta was Mickelson’s second in his career.
If you want to make your bets on how Mickelson fared in the latter stages of the PGA season then perhaps betting the field will be a good bet. Mickelson hit a driver far left after attempting to hit a "baby slice" and decided to go for the green with his second shot rather than pitch out into the fairway. His ball then hit a tree, with the following shot plugging into the greenside bunker. Phil was unable to get up and down, leading to his only double bogey of the tournament on the 72nd hole, and costing him the championship.
Justin Rose finished 47th on the money list in 2006 and won the Australian Masters, his first title in four years as a European Tour regular.
