European Tour: Big priced Rocha and Jeppesen can threaten in ViennaThe European Tour swings into Austria this week for the BA-CA Open with home hope and defending champ Markus Brier installed as the 9/1 favourite with Bodog.com.

Brier has been in fantastic form this season with a win at the China Open and a second at the Italian Open (lost in a play off) and a fifth at the BMW Asian Open, but the bookies can stuff that price back into their well lined pockets as far as I’m concerned.

Brier will command the bulk of the attention this week from media and spectators alike and that kind of pressure will be hard to carry on this tight driving course that features very slopey greens on the outskirts of Vienna.

In a field that contains genuine world class players like Colin Montgomerie 14s, Lee Westwood 10s and Miguel Angel Jimenez 14s, Brier will certainly have his work cut out to justify his favourites tag.

I prefer the chances of two much bigger priced talented youngsters who could be just the type to spring a surprise. Stand forward 100/1 humdingers Alexandre Rocha and Steven Jeppesen.

Both have solid course history at Fontana Golf Club, Jeppesen finished 8th here last year despite shooting a 75 in Saturday’s round and the young Swede clearly has an affinity with the place after finishing runner up in 2005.

Brazilian prospect Rocha finished 18th on his debut at Fontana in 2006 and I expect him to improve on that this week.

He’s shown flashes of form this season with a 7th at the Italian Open and his accuracy from the tee will help his cause enormously on a track that features water hazards on 10 holes!
