The 2006 Ryder Cup tees off on Friday at The K Club in Kildare, Ireland, with the United States team hoping to win the event for the first time since a 14.5-13.5 victory on their own soil back in 1999. Team Europe scored a 15.5-12.5 win at The Belfry in 2002, then blasted the Americans 18.5-9.5 at Oakland Hills in 2004 in an historically lopsided affair.
Working in the United States’ favor this time around is the fact that they have the top three golfers in the world in their lineup – Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, and Phil Mickelson. Here are each of the 12-man lineups, with the world ranking of each of the 24 golfers:

As always, both the Friday and the Saturday schedules will feature four foursome matches and four fourball matches, while Sunday features twelve singles matches. Each match victory is good for a single point, and a tie is worth 1/2 point for both teams.
So how do the oddsmakers see the Ryder Cup coming out? Team Europe is currently pegged as the -125 favorite, while Team USA is the even-money underdog. Bettors who want to wager on a tie can get +900 odds for that result (Europe would keep the Cup). But if you want to spread around your golf bets this weekend, you can also wager on the top points scorer for both teams. For Europe, the favorites to do the best this weekend are Harrington, Garcia, and Donald (all at +500 odds), with Montgomerie at +600, Westwood at +800, and Clarke, Casey, and Howell all at +900. Bringing up the rear then are Stenson and Olazabal (at +1200), and McGinley and Karlsson (at +2000).
Any guesses who the top dog on the U.S. team is expected to be? Shockingly, it’s Woods, who is pegged as the +200 favorite to lead the Americans in Ryder Cup points. Furyk is next at +350, followed by Mickelson at +500, DiMarco at +600, and Toms at +800. Cink is listed at +1000, with both Verplank and Campbell at +1600, Johnson and Henry at +2500, Taylor at +3000, and Wetterich last on the list at a real longshot +5000.
Woods is also the +400 favorite to be the top tournament point scorer, and he’s followed by Furyk (+700), Mickelson (+800), and Garcia (+800). The rookie points scorer favorite is Stenson at +225, Harrington is favored as the top Irishman at -140, and Donald is favored as the top Englishman at +250; Woods will not be a contender for those props. And if the bottom line is your game, you can place a wager on the final score as well. The favorites right now are ‘Europe to Win 14.5 - 13.5’ and ‘Europe to Win 15 - 13’, which are both listed at +800. Next up are ‘USA to Win 14.5 - 13.5’ and ‘Tie’, which are pegged at +900. Europe to repeat with an 18.5 - 9.5 win is down the list at +4000 odds.
