Tiger Woods does it again at the World Gold ChampionshipTiger Woods wins back to back tournaments as he captures the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational Title.  Woods beat out Stewart Cink in a 4 hole playoff in the World Golf Championship – Bridgestone Invitational to win his 5th event title in his career.  The win marks his 52 career victories.

 

Stewart Cink lost the lead on the back nine, but was able to regain his composure to force the playoff.  Jim Furyk was able to close out his round in third place.

World Golf Championship Highlights

Tiger Woods missed a birdie putt on the 14th by six inches.  Jim Furyk birdied the 15th hole to gain control of second place.


Tiger Woods hit his tee shot behind the gallery into the woods and behind a tree on the 16th.  For his second shot, Woods used his 7 iron and was able to punch the ball back into the fairway 224 yards from the hole.  For his third shot, Tiger used his 3 iron to carry the water and landed just off the backside of the green. Woods two putted for a bogey and dropped to 10 under.

 

Furyk almost birdied the 17th but was 6 inches off.  Stewart Cink battled back and was able to get a birdie on the 17th hole to grab a share of the lead with Tiger Woods.  Woods sunk a 5 foot putt for par right after Cink tied the leader.

 

On the 18th, Jim Furyk hit his pitching wedge on his third shot to put the ball inside 10 feet from the pin.  Furyk was able to drop the pressure putt to save par and finished his round at 68 and 9 under for the tournament.

 

Stewart Cink hit his drive to the right of the fairway into the rough in the forest.  Cink was able to get the ball on the green with his second shot but was 88 feet from the pin. On his third shot, Cink came up about 3 feet short and ended up getting par. 

 

Tiger Woods used his 3 wood off the tee and hit the ball deep into the middle of the fairway.  Tiger hit an iron and placed his second shots approximately 10 feet from the pin on the green.  Woods came up short on his birdie attempt and sunk his par putt forcing a playoff with Cink.


In the playoff holes, Woods was having trouble but Cink was unable to convert on three attempts to end the day.  Woods went on to win the 4th playoff hole and captured the Word Golfing Championship for the 5th time in the last seven years.
