After a short two game road trip The New York Islanders come home for just one game of NHL picks tonight. The Islanders are coming off a season last year that certainly had the league talking as they pulled off a huge trade to acquire Ryan Smyth who was Edmonton's heart and soul late in the season. That move propelled them into the playoffs where they lost to a much better Buffalo team in the first round. This season the Islanders have shown respectability as they are 24-25-0-7 but are coming into this contest off a long 7 game losing streak and have lost 9 of their last 11 overall. The Islanders went into this season with a whole new number one line and it has showed thus far as they rank dead last in the NHL in scoring averaging 2.36 goals per game. After ranking in the upper half of the league in defense their performance has not improved as they have dropped to23rd in the league. Both teams will be looking to right the ship tonight as they sport a combined 10 losses in a row. The Islanders have had their share of losing streaks over the last couple of seasons but are 8-4 ATS off 2 or more consecutive road losses over the last 2 seasons. Philadelphia’s turn around this season has show in their numbers as they are a profitable 10-4 ATS in road games after a game where they failed to cover the spread this season.
