NHL Picks: Boston Bruins vs Toronto Maple Leafs PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 16 February 2008

The Boston Bruins go into today’s NHL Picks action versus the Toronto Maple Leafs struggling as they have lost 4 of their last 6 overall.  After holding onto the final playoff spot in the conference they are now tied with the New York Rangers at 63 points and only 1 point in front of the Atlanta Thrashers.  Much of their recent problems can be attributed to their lack of offense as they have dropped to scoring only 2.4 goals per game over the last five contests.  In addition, their power play has been just about silent as they have scored on only 4.8% of their chances after averaging over 17% for the season.  Boston has been effective protecting a lead this season have won 92% of their games when leading after two periods of the play that rank them 7th in the NHL.  It doesn’t appear that the odds makers believe that the Bruins will extend their winning streak to two games as they are listed as a +110 underdog on the money line and +1.5/--260 on the puck line at SBGglobal.com

The Toronto Maple Leafs are on a slide of their own as they are coming into this game of NHL picks losers of two in a row and 7 of their last 11 overall to put them at 23-27-0-9.  Their point total puts them almost dead last in the NHL as they rank 29th.  The Toronto defense has been horrible, especially over their last five contests, as they give up an average of 3.6 goals per game.  Their starting goaltending has been like swiss cheese with a save percentage a very low 83% during that stretch.  Don’t expect their offense to pull them out of this either as they score only 2.2 goals per game.  Toronto hasn’t faired all that well versus the Bruins either as they have lost 3 of 4 this season including a win in their last meeting back in January.

Boston has shown the ability to bounce back after losing streaks this season as they are 6-1 ATS in road games after having lost 2 of their last 3 games this season.  However, Toronto has shown that ability as well as they are 93-71 ATS after 2 or more consecutive losses since 1996.
