The Detroit Red Wings look to finally put an NHL Picks winning streak together tonight as they visit the Calgary Flames.  The Red Wings finally broke their six game losing streak when they beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-0 back on Monday.  However, the win might be one of their more costly this season as five time Norris Trophy winner and 50 assist player, Nicklas Lidstrom, injured his right knee when getting checked hard into the boards.  He is expected to miss up to three weeks of action.  Even with their current losing streak the Red Wings still hold a 10 point lead over the Dallas Stars for the top spot in the Western Conference. During all of the losses the Detroit defense really struggled as they scored only 10 goals.  Defense was also a problem with Chris Osgood subbing for the injured Dominik Hasek but eventually got replaced by Jimmy Howard who has posted a 95% save percentage in his last four games.  The odds makers look for Detroit to remain on track as BetOnline.com has them listed as a -115 favorite on the money line and -1.5/+230 on the puck line.

The Calgary Flames have won two game in a row of NHL Picks but are in a dog fight for a playoff spot as they sit in the 8th and final spot in the Western Conference only four points in front of both the Phoenix Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche.  That will present a big challenge for them tonight as they have lost all three meetings this season versus the Red Wings by a combined score of 13-6.  If the Red Wings fall back into a scoring drought that will certainly help the Flames keep pace as their offense is ranked a respectable 9th in the NHL. That won’t be easy stopping the Red Wings however as the Calgary defense ranks a lowly 22nd in goals against giving up 2.85 goals per game.

Certainly with Detroit winning last night history points towards a Red Wing win as they are 10-1 ATS in road games off a road win this season.  However, before jumping on board with the Red Wings consider that Calgary comes into this one 15-4 ATS in home games revenging a loss vs opponent of 2 goals or more over the last 2 seasons.
