The Phoenix Coyotes hope to get into the scoring column this evening with they travel in and NHL Picks contest to take on the St. Louis Blues.  The Coyotes were active at the trading deadline in hopes of improving their club and playoff chances as they were part of a five player deal that brought Marcel Hossa over from the New York Rangers.  At least in the short term Hossa’s debut was anything but stellar as did not register a shot on goal last night as the Coyotes were shut out by the Chicago Blackhawks 1-0.  Phoenix has had problems all season scoring as they rank only 19^th in the league averaging 2.64 goals per game. Tonight could be just what Phoenix needs to get back on track as they have dominated the St. Louis Blues out scoring the Blues 7-3 while winning the first three games between the clubs this season, and the Coyotes have won eight of the past nine overall.  Even with their success against St. Louis the public seems concerned about their lack of scoring as BetUs.com has them listed as a rather high +130 road underdog on the money line and +1.5/-230 on the puck line. 

The St. Louis Blues also hope to turn things around as they have really been struggling lately as they are only 0-3-1 in their last four games.  Their most recent loss was a 3-1 setback at the hands of the Dallas Stars.  The Blues have to turn it around quickly as they currently sit 13^th in the Western Conference 6 points out of the final playoff spot currently held by Colorado.  The Blues have even had a tougher time in putting the puck in the net as they rank only 26^th in the NHL scoring 2.51 goals per game.   To compound problems leading scorer Paul Kariya has not registered a point in each of his last four games while the Blues have only scored three goals during the losing streak.  The Blues have gotten decent defensive support as they rank 14^th in the NHL allowing 2.71 goals per game. 

The Blues potentially could spoil the Coyote’s playoff hopes tonight as they are a perfect 5-0 ATS in home games after 2 straight losses by 2 goals or more over the last 2 seasons.  However Phoenix is only 3 points away from the final playoff spot and do have historical support as they are 13-8 ATS after allowing 2 goals or less in 2 straight games over the last 2 seasons
