The Boston Bruins have been red hot in NHL Picks recently and tonight they look to capture their longest winning streak in almost 15 years when they face off against the Washington Capitals. Boston has won six games in a row and seven of their last eight to post a 7-0-1 mark including Saturday's 3-2 shootout win over Atlanta. Boston hasn't won seven straight since closing out the 1992-93 season with an eight game streak. With all of their winning recently the Bruins are actually have their sights on fifth place in the Conference as they sit only four points away from New Jersey. Things appear to be on Boston’s side tonight as they have won their last five trips to the nation's capital and eight of their last nine contests against the Capitals. A big part of their dominance over Washington has been the play of goaltender Tim Thomas who is 8-0-1 with a 1.82 goals against average in nine career games versus the Capitals. A lot of the credit however for their current run is the play of rookie David Krejci who has has 15 points for the Bruins after leading their AHL affiliate in Providence with 31 goals and 74 points last season. The odds makers still don’t seem convinced that the Bruins are for real however as they are listed as a +110 road underdog on the money line and +1.5/-245 on the puck line at SBGglobal.com
After a short two game winning streak the Washington Capitals got back to their NHL Picks losing ways posting a 3-2 home loss to last-place Toronto on Saturday. The loss was their 7th in the last 10 games and has put them six points behind eighth place Philadelphia for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals do have some hope in this one as they sport the leagues leading scorer in Alexander Ovechkin. However, just as Washington has, he has struggled scoring for the first time in seven games in their loss to the Maple Leafs. He will have to continue the scoring tonight but did struggle in his last meeting versus the Bruins as he was held without a point after he had three goals and four assists in the previous eight matchups.
Although the Capitals come into this one struggling they have seemed to be able to step it up versus some of the better teams in the league as they are 16-9 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record this season. But they are going to have to overcome the fact that the Bruins are a perfect 5-0 ATS in road games when playing against a team who has only won 40% to 49% of their NHL Picks during the second half of the season this season.
