 Seven games are scheduled for NHL betting action today and plenty of the games have playoff implications including when the Boston Bruins host the Washington Capitals. The streak propelled Boston into the playoff picture, all the way to sixth place in the Eastern Conference as of Thursday. The Bruins did cool off this week, though, losing on back-to-back nights to Washington and Florida. Both were tough losses, as Boston was pounded 10-2 by the Capitals and lost a 1-0 overtime squeaker to the Panthers. The B’s offense was effective during their winning streak, averaging four goals a game. Marco Strum had a big hand in that with 11 points in his past nine games. After making some small-but-smart deals at the trade deadline, the Capitals are heating up. They’ve won four of their past five games, including Monday’s explosion against Boston and Wednesday’s 3-1 win in Buffalo. After a slow February – by his standards – NHL leading scorer Alexander Ovechkin has turned it back on, scoring six goals and nine points in his last three games. If he and Washington can maintain that pace, the Caps have a legitimate chance at passing Carolina in the Southeast Division and qualifying for the playoffs. Boston and Washington have split the season series 1-1. Both teams have fire in their eyes and the Bruins will want to atone for Monday’s poor showing.
