As of Monday, New Jersey sat atop the Eastern Conference, but with the Canadiens, Penguins and Senators all clustered together, the standings flip flop on a daily basis. BetOnline.com has the New Jersey Devils -140 odds favorites against the New York Rangers +120 with the over/under set at 5 goals.
The Devils took care of business on their recent four-game road trip, winning three of four games, including Saturday's 4-2 victory over the Avalanche. Diminutive forward Brian Gionta has led the offensive charge in Jersey's back-to-back wins with three points, including scoring his 20th goal of the season, his fourth straight 20-goal campaign.
The Rangers have stalled recently, losing two straight games to Florida and Tampa Bay, respectively. They're still in solid playoff shape, though, currently holding the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. Despite only a 3-2-0 record to show for it, netminder Henrik Lundqvist has picked up his play, recording a 1.55 goals against average and .941 save percentage in his five games. Lundqvist did not play well through January and February, and if the Rangers are to have any chance in the postseason, they'll need him at his finest form.
New Jersey has been unable to find an answer for New York, losing all five match-ups with the Rangers this season. Despite being the hotter team, it's hard to believe the Devils will turn things around this late in the season. Get your Free NHL Pick in Now!
