Free NHL Pick: Colorado Avalanche at Edmonton Oilers

by Thomas Jensen on Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

The Edmonton Oilers host the Colorado Avalanche later today. BetOnline.com has the Colorado Avalanche -130 odds favorite against the Edmonton Oilers +110 with the over/under set at 5 goals.  Colorado is slumping at the worst possible time. Trailing Minnesota for the division lead, the Avalanche have lost two in a row and three of five, including Monday's 3-1 loss to the Wild. The Avs are middle-of-the-pack in NHL goal scoring, but they've potted just three in their last two games. They'll need to improve on that number considerably if they want to catch the Wild in the Northwest.

Edmonton, meanwhile, is making an unexpected late push for the eighth and final playoff berth. The On the surface, it appears the Oilers are sunk; heading into Thursday's action, they trailed Colorado by five points with just eight games remaining. However, every single game left on the schedule is against division opponents – Colorado, Minnesota, Vancouver and Calgary – all teams Edmonton is chasing. The Oilers need to win nearly all of those games to sneak in, which doesn't sound so crazy when you realize they've won three straight and are 10-2-0 in their last 12 games.

Colorado leads the season series 14-1, but the Oilers have all the momentum. That Edmonton crowd will be pretty loud. Get your Free NHL Pick in Now!
