The Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Florida Panthers. BetOnline.com has the Florida Panthers –190 odds favorites against the Tampa Bay Lightning –160 odds with the over/under set at 5.5 goals.
The Panthers have quietly put together a great run to sneak into the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Heading into Thursday's action, Florida was four points back of the sinking Flyers. Winners of seven in a row, the Panthers have relied heavily on defence and goaltending; they've allowed just seven goals – including two 1-0 shut outs – and haven't allowed more than two goals in a game during that run. Tomas Vokoun and Craig Anderson have combined for seven wins, 1.28 goals against average and .962 save percentage. If they can somehow keep up that absurd pace, Florida will get in.
Cellar-dweller Tampa Bay has been a little better lately, winning three in a row before Wednesday's 7-4 collapse against Buffalo. The Lighting blew a 4-1 lead by surrendering six third period goals. Tampa has simply been awful this year, save for a few bright spots like Vincent Lecavalier (currently third in NHL scoring). The Lighting shipped away Brad Richards at the deadline and the most important player they received in the deal, Mike Smith, seems to be coming around. The netminder has a shut out, 0.50 goals against average and .982 save percentage in his last two games. He could play a big role in Tampa's future.
Tampa Bay and Florida have split the season series at three apiece, but the Panthers are charging hard right now. With a boisterous crowd behind them, they'll get it done. Get your Free NHL Pick in Now!
