2010 Arnold Palmer Invitational Predictions: Phil Mickelson the Favorite to Win

The PGA Tour hits its next Florida stop this week for the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, Fla. This week’s tournament is the perfect lead up to the Masters, as putting and a great short game will test player’s creativity for Augusta. Phil Mickelson (11/1) was a winner back in 1997. 2010 has not been a great year so far and why he’s a favorite is beyond me. He’s made five of five cuts this season with his best finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am where he came in T-8. At the WGC-CA Championship he finished T-14, 19TH at the Farmers Insurance Open, T-24 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and T-45 at the Northern Trust Open. He’s currently ranked 39th in FedEx Cup standings and is shooting under his scoring averages (69.60) from previous years.

Steve Stricker (16/1) is firing on all cylinders this season. He won this year’s Northern Trust Open and had a third place finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Overall this year he has four Top-10 finishes and one Top-25 ending. He’s currently ranked first in FedEx Cup standings and is shooting well under his scoring averages (68.55) from previous years .

Ernie Els (18/1) was a winner back in 1998. He is fresh off his previous week’s win at the WGC-CA Championship. He’s made all six cuts so far and is have a much improved season. He finished T-5 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T-10 at the Northern Trust Open and two Top-25 finishes. He’s currently ranked third in FedEx Cup standings and is shooting well under his scoring averages (69.15) from previous years.

Jim Furyk (20/1) is also a winner on Tour this season, he recently won last week’s Transitions Championship. He’s made five of five cuts but hasn’t finished in the Top-10 except for his win. He finished T-17 at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and T-20 at the Northern Trust Open. He is currently 7th in the FedEX Cup standings and is shooting under his scoring averages (69.69) from previous years.
