There’s still bad blood between the NY Rangers and NJ Devils from last year’s playoffs, especially with Sean Avery back in a Rangers uniform and Martin Brodeur in between the pipes. The NY Rangers (39-28-3-6) host the NJ Devils (47-24-2-2) for a NHL clash of the titans. The Devils have won their last three meetings by a score of 15-7. NHL oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have the Devils as -115 moneyline favs over the Rangers (-105) with the over/under set at 5.5 goals. Their lone goal scorer was Patrik Elias. Goalie Martin Brodeur stopped 46 of 48 shots for a 15-6-3 record with a 2.17 GAA and a .925 SVPCT. Brodeur is 1-5-3 in his past nine regular-season starts against the Rangers despite a 2.07 goals-against average in that span, and he allowed 16 goals in last season's playoff series. The Devils are 21-13-2-1 on the road where they average 2.65 GAG and give up an average 2.62 GAG. They are 1-4 in their last five road games where they’ve averaged 2.00 GAG and given up an average 3.20 GAG. After dropping its first two meetings with New York this season, New Jersey has won three straight and broke a five-game skid at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 27 with a 4-2 win. The Devils have a six-point lead in the Atlantic Division over Philadelphia and sit in third in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers recently lost to the Penguins 3-4 on the road for their third loss in four games. They got goals from Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky and Nik Antropov. Goalie Henrik Lundqvist stopped 24 of 28 shots for a 34-23-7 record with a 2.50 GAA and a .914 SVPCT. Sean Avery will be back to face his enemy Martin Brodeur. In Game 3 in New York, Avery waved his arms and stick in front of Brodeur to screen him during a Rangers power play, prompting the NHL to institute a rule outlawing the practice. New Jersey won that game in overtime, but ended its season with consecutive defeats. Avery had three goals and five points in the series versus the Devils but has only three assists in 15 lifetime regular-season games. The Rangers are 23-11-2-2 at home where they average 2.61 GAG and give up an average 2.37 GAG. They are 4-1 in their last five home games where they’ve averaged 3.20 GAG and given up an average 2.00 GAG. The Rangers are in fourth in the Atlantic, three back of Pittsburgh, and in seventh in the Eastern Conference. Recent Trends to Consider:
